Top 3 Planner Must Haves! |For beginners|

Whether you are new to planning or, looking for a different approach to what you are already doing, these planner tips are to help inspire you and guide you to successfully managing your time and driving productivity!

1. Finding the right planner

Setting clear goals helps with understanding your reason for planning. It helps give you a clear idea of what you need to track, what lists you need to make, and is especially useful when deciding what type of planner or journal to invest in. When I first started, I knew I wanted to get organized but didn't think about much else. I bought my first personal sized planner based on the simple fact that it was small enough that I could carry with me everywhere but quickly realized that it was not enough space for all of the aspects of my life I wanted to organize. Once I was able to figure out what sections I needed to incorporate into my planning I was able to find the perfect sized planner!

2. Pens, Pencil, Markers

Having the right tools for planning really has to do with the way you plan to use your planner. Markers help with color coordinating different sections in your planning like home, personal and work. The type of pages you use are also important, different GSM ( grams per square meter) of paper has to do with the types of mediums that can be used on it. The higher the GSM the less bleed through when using pens and markers. Most planners have a standard GSM of 80 which bleeds through with marker but works with most pencils and pens. Printable pages allow you to use your own paper and better regulate GSM. Once I moved into my dot grid I realized it was much better for me to just decorate using sketches and doodles than stickers and washi. Find some great doodle inspiration for your planner here!

3. Stickers, Post its, Washi tape

We all know that stickers and washi are the most fun part about keeping a planner, but they can be a bit distracting if not used properly. Once I realized my personal planner was too small, I moved into an A-5 Happy Planner and the pages were the right size but the wrong layout. I ended up covering most pages up with washi tape and cardstock, so it really defeated the purpose of having a planner altogether. Be sure to take it one sticker book at a time, find the ones that will help keep track of your tasks, and topics. Don't forget to use post-it notes that help add quick notes on the go.

These tips are meant for beginners and are just a few of the important things to take into consideration when learning how to keep a planner. Trial and error will be the best learning tool and staying consistent goes a long way.
